Secondly, in many sporting applications, the product can be brought to market in a relatively short period of time with little need to verify its performance, in contrast to the lengthy period of testing that would be needed in, for example, aerospace certification. The main one is that people are prepared to pay a premium for the perceived sporting advantages that a new material may bring. New high-performance materials are often first employed in sporting goods for a number of reasons.
